Duodecimator is my specialized measuring device for cropping 10” x 12” panels (the largest size that fits in my pochade box) to specific aspect ratios.

The increments indicate how much to cut from the 10” end to make the desired proportion with the 12” side. I made it with a prism shaped piece of wood, like an architect’s rule, so I can add other scales on the other sides.

I selected the classic “golden rectangle” represented by the Greek phi symbol,

and taped off the panel.

I then went ahead with the sketch

and then lopped it off on the table saw.

Note that this is a special blade for fine cuts.
